Right, so, open memo to world: Next time you feel like giving me free passes to a movie, especially if it's in another city, please try and tell me this before the day said movie will be showing. Thanks bunches, me.

Suffice to say, [livejournal.com profile] draco17 and I saw Howl's Moving Castle in Baltimore tonight. It was very good, and while I had intended to read the book before I saw the film, Border's and Amazon continually told me it was out of stock from the publisher. Of course, Amazon can get it to me now, but that's rather moot. The movie was very well done, and Howl was FUCKING HOT AND GAY and I did not mind seeing it dubbed because Christian Bale just made Howl THAT MUCH MORE HOTT. WITH TWO T'S. As far as the storytelling, and I can't really comment on this as I've not read the book, it seemed to me that the original story probably had a lot of detail in it that Miyazaki left out, as he's not really into building up a whole magic system, which makes him doing a fantasy book kinda weird. So in the middle it seemed a tad muddled and had me a bit lost, but it all pulled through in the end and made sense. Really want to read the book now, though, and the sequel; which I hope Miyazaki does not do, because Castle in the Air is just too similar a title to Castle in the Sky. xD

Tomorrow I have Killers and Keane show with Seana, Megan and Leerie. It's like, The Killers. And Keane. And Louis XIV. And two other bands I've never heard of. We have rather good seats. And they were free (thanks Megan!). So, this should be fun.

And now, music meme (and a rant!), as Seana tagged me.

List your 6 current favorite songs and then pick 6 people who have to do the same (these are only current favorite songs, and have no bearing on my favorite songs of all time):

1. System of a Down - B.Y.O.B.
2. System of a Down - Violent Pornography
3. System of a Down - Old School Hollywood
4. Anna Nalick - Breathe (2AM)
5. Jimmy Eat World - Pain
6. The Music - Welcome to the North

I'm tagging: [livejournal.com profile] titanic_days, [livejournal.com profile] light_music, [livejournal.com profile] chinawolf, [livejournal.com profile] ina, [livejournal.com profile] jlh and [livejournal.com profile] blood_starz. If you've already done the meme, then just ignore the tag, as I'm too lazy to go check.

And now a rant about song number three on my list. It's a fantastic song, but the lyrics ... they aren't hard ... not at all ... unless you are an average metalhead who puts lyrics online apparently. On most of the major lyric sites it seems to have been submitted with these lyrics:

Old school Hollywood baseball,
Jack Gelardi is ten feet tall,
Old school Hollywood baseball,
Me and Frankie Abolon.

The misspelling of Gilardi's name is forgivable, as it's hard to spell, and it is a semi-obscure reference in the first place. But Abolon? Come on now. We should know how to spell Frankie Avalon. We should know who he is. Or at least heard of him. Ignoring that, it's written correctly in the liner notes for the CD. How hard is it to look at those before you submit your lyrics to a major site that then gets copied to all the other major sites? How hard is it to figure out that no one is named Abolon? Abolon is fucking anabolic steroid for god's sake! Le sigh.

People are dumb.
